Dear SMILES,
Thank you so much for the wonderful program that you are running. We are so proud of the progress our daughter and son are making. The best part is they have come so far physically, and have a great time emotionally.
Our daughter, Brooke is 12 and has Cerebral Palsy since birth. She has little body control, making it hard to build up muscle. When we started the program with you, she could not hold her head up. We made a neck brace for her out of a rolled up towel. Now after four years, she is able to go without the towel for the whole 45 minute lesson. She has built up trunk control that has helped her in her posturing. The greatest thing for Brooke, however, is the ability to sit on the horse and feel the gait. She loves horses because of the gift of motion the horse gives her. The highlight of her life is the time she spends on the back of a horse.
Our son, Nathan, is 6 and has Downs Syndrome, along with ADHA. He has been riding the last couple of years with his sister. He has come a long way with his tone in his trunk. Since he started riding, instead of sitting with his shoulder rolled forward, due to low trunk control, he sits up more. The program has taught great listening and following direction skills. We love how they use the alphabet and numbers in the games we play to strengthen their schooling. Nate loves the cowboy feel. He is so proud of himself, controlling that big horse.
Thank you so much for the reward of watching our children accomplish riding and feeling proud of themselves. We do not have many opportunities for our children, as other parents do, and to be able to be a part of a program that is so well run, is a true blessing from God. Thank you again. You will never know truly the wonderful impact you're making on these people's lives. Bless you, Kristna & Scott Markley
