OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCES

Notes From Therapy In Motion

Therapy In Motion is fortunate to service many wonderful families. Some of these children have been receiving physical and/or occupational therapy for most of their lives. They would like to share a few comments about their therapy sessions here.

Geoff (19 years) - "The thing I like most is that I can ride my horse by myself." Leslie, Geoff's Mom, says that therapy in itself can be boring especially when doing exercise on the living room floor at home. Here, Geoff is able to be with animals, enjoying his therapy time while doing his therapeutic exercises. He looks forward to coming each week.

Andrea (8 years) - "Andy" says to her, this isn't work; it is fun. Andy's favorite part of therapy is riding the horse. About Scarlett, she says "I have a very sweet horse".

Tanner (11 years) - "I like the horse show because I love taking home a trophy." Tanner's Mom, Nicky, likes the different techniques that Lynn, his therapist, uses in his therapy sessions. Baylee, Tanner's sister, likes to come to see Darla, the barn cat.

Nikki (4 years) - Nikki is very proud of her ability to say and sign "walk on" to her horse, Reggie. Nikki's mom, Diane says she has seen the biggest growth in Nikki from here (SMILES). She says the program has helped her daughter "be more comfortable with herself". "It has made her more independent - more of a risk taker. On our vacation to Disney, Nikki went on rides that she previously would have been too afraid to attempt." Diane also likes the variety of treatment techniques used and the therapist's tenacity in working with Nikki's "moods". She thought the sensory motor group that Nikki participated in this summer was also a great program, especially in working on Nikki's social and team building skills".

Zakary (6 years) - Zak's Mom, Deb, says Zak likes riding the horse the most. Deb likes the whole program - "It's awesome". "I think it has really helped Zak a lot - his head control is much bnetter since he started riding".

Bethany (9 years) - "It's fun here, I love horses and I make new friends. I get to jump rope. It's fun to be able to do thinkgs (like ride a horse one time a week) that my friends at school can't do." Dad says "Bethany has made nice steady progress. I like being able to watch other kids make such nice gains."
